Black Hawk County rural roads will remain at 55 mph

Black Hawk County’s paved rural roads will remain posted at 55 mph, despite a new law allowing speeds of up to 60 mph.

What changes

The new law permits a higher speed limit than the one posted on Black Hawk County’s paved rural roads. The county’s roads will continue to use the 55 mph limit.

The current limit

For drivers using the county’s paved rural roads, the posted speed remains 55 mph. The state law’s 60 mph allowance does not raise that limit on these roads.

The development leaves two speed figures in place: 55 mph for Black Hawk County’s paved rural roads and up to 60 mph under the new law.
